About

The Site

Description

This site contains the writings of José Manuel Riveros. The site is comprised of three sections: an articles section, a tumblelog and a links page. The articles section features long-form writing on the subjects of art, design and film. The tumblelog contains short-form commentary and the occasional photograph or artwork from the studio.

The site is in its second iteration. I not only redesigned the forward-facing pages, but also reorganized the administrative structure of the site. By doing so, I hope to make the site a more accessible and consistent experience for the reader while allowing me, the author, greater flexibility in publishing my ideas in their various forms.

Colophon

Description

Each page template has been hand-coded using HTML5 and CSS3. I use Cufón to display some of the headings. Throughout the site you will see several non-core typefaces. Whenever a distinct typeface is used in an article it will be duly noted where applicable. The typography used on this site consists of FF Meta and FF Meta Serif Web Pro (including small capitals) by Erik Speikerman of FontFont which is served via Typekit; and the Museo super family by Jos Buivenga which is served via Cufón. If you are viewing this website in a browser which is not supported by either service you will see a system default face for the body text and headlines.

The site is powered by ExpressionEngine with the support of several add-ons, including but not limited to, Matrix by Pixel & Tonic, NDG Flexible Admin by Nico De Gols, Shortcut by Solspace and Entries Number by Laisvunas. Coding is done in Espresso and CSSEdit on the Mac; and E-Text Editor on Windows. I use Firefox as my development browser because of the essential add-on, It’s All Text by Christian Höltje. It should also be noted that I use the script Hyphenator to aid in readability.
